Kisoro Municipal Vocational Training Institute (KMVTI) is a premier Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in Kisoro Municipality, dedicated to hands-on skills development, employability and community transformation.
Impact: A Decade of Service
Between 2016 and 2026, Kisoro Municipal Vocational Training Institute has proudly trained and graduated over 10,000 graduates who are now gainfully employed, self employed and contributing to socio-economic development in various fields including construction, tailoring, hairdressing, catering, agriculture, business, and early childhood education across Uganda and the region.
Kisoro Municipal Vocational Training Institute was established in 2016 as a community-driven initiative with a single classroom, housed at late Mzee Ruhamyankaka Donati's residence in Kisoro Main Village. The founder Mr.Tumwizere Michael was guided by a simple but powerful philosophy, to bring practical, affordable skills closer to the youth and mothers of Kisoro who could not access formal technical education. Despite limited infrastructure, the institution recorded steady enrollment and community trust.
Following the 2016-2021 General Elections, Hon. Sam Byibesho, Member of Parliament for Kisoro Municipality, came in to support the idea the founder had developed as a key vehicle for youth empowerment and municipal development. In 2017, he extended critical financial, moral and infrastructural support, marking a turning point in the Institute's growth trajectory. This partnership provided the community initiative with sustainability and legitimacy.
In line with our mandate for continuous growth, Kisoro Municipal Vocational Training Institute broadened its academic scope through a strategic academic partnership with Makerere University. Under this affiliation, the Institute enrolled and successfully implemented the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programs(Certificate and Diploma), opening pathways for caregivers, nursery teachers and ECD Center managers.
